Infrastructural Facilities & Resources
The Three Pillars :
Teaching Faculty: Along with the eminent substantive faculties there is a large no. of distinguished State Aided College Teachers (SACTs) to meet the exigencies of academic standard and adequacy of teaching hours. More than 70% of the teachers are either Ph.D. or M.Phil. degree achievers. Majority of the teachers are associated with research activities. They are also associated with syllabus framing, module formation, examination works etc. asmembers of the UG and/or PG Board of Studies of University of Kalyani as well as other renowned academic institutions.
Non-Teaching Faculty: All the members of the qualified non-teaching staff serve the students with meticulous care and devotion. Their tireless efforts help the College authority to keep all the College records up to date.
The Students: Against the present day scenario, Chakdaha College students are exceptionally good in all aspects like learning aptitude, behaviour, class attendance, dress code and obviously on social services. Students’ Union is always there to serve the distressed students in need. Our college is one of the very few colleges where one will find no poster, walling or festoon inside the eco-friendly college campus. The whole credit goes to the students. From 1972, there has been not a single incident of student harassment by his/her fellow students. Ragging is strictly abstained from by our students.
The College Building :
The College Building is divided into five separate segments, viz. Dwijendra Lal Roy Bhawan, Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy Bhawan, Amartya Sen Bhawan, Rabindra Nath Tagore Bhawan (including Principal’s Chamber) and Central Library (Sonar Tari). It includes spacious and well-ventilated, well-lit class rooms, laboratories, staff room, girls’ common room, multi wash rooms, canteen, library reading room, students’ union room and a playground surrounded by lush green vegetation.
Office :
The college office is fully computerized. The Accounts department is also computerized and take care of Students’ Fee Collection, Daily Accounts. maintenance of Cash Book etc. All these operations are mechanistically done by using the accounting package programme Tally (7.2). The college office is now well equipped to render smooth and efficient services to more than three thousand students. Any student may get all his/her up-dated information by a click of the mouse button.
Hostel :
There is a hostel for fourteen SC/ST boys with optimum facilities. The UGC has already granted a sum of 80 lacs for the construction of women’s hostel which is under construction. With assistance from the RUSA 2.0 fund, the construction work of another new Hostel for Girls will be started soon.
Library :
Near about 29482 books (texts and references altogether), newspapers, journals and periodicals with updated information are available in the Central Library. Very recently, with the assistance of RUSA 2.0 fund of Rs. 8 lacs (approx.), a huge number of books for all the Departments have been purchased as per the requirement of new UG-NEP 2020 and CBCS syllabus. With the recent implementation of INFLIBNET facility through N-List programme, the Central library has become updated and a pool of e-journals/e-books is accessed very easily. Students of both Day and Morning sections are benefited by the Library. The college library remains open to all students from 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday; 10.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. on Tuesday and 8.30 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. on Saturday. Books are lent out to the students on the submission of library cards – two for Hons. and one for General course students. Besides, it has a reading section also. Books can be borrowed for a period of 15 days.
Departmental libraries are also operative for the benefit of the students within a limited capacity.
Laboratories :
Departments like Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany, Mathematics,Geography,Computer Science and Statisticsal ready have well-equipped and modernized laboratories. The laboratories have also been updated as per the previous CBCS syllabus and the current UG-NEP 2020 curriculum by procuring some new instruments from RUSA 2.0 grant. Students are groomed by the expert teachers to have an individual hands-on-experience.Laboratory rooms are large enough for air circulation, proper illumination and students’ free movement. For all the subjects, different laboratory rooms are used for different kinds of experiments. Some laboratories have computer facilities too. Besides routine classes, special practical classes are arranged for final practices, especially before the final university examinations. Laboratory attendants are always here to look after the needs of the students.
Seminar Hall :
An auditorium cum seminar hall named A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Sabhakakshya with capacity of 200 seats serves the purposes of academic and cultural activities of the College. There is another seminar hall, Vidyasagar Sabhakakshya, with the capacity of 80 seats that has been setup with almost all modern provisions. The third seminar room named Satyendranath Sabhakakshya, serves the purpose of some in-house lectures and talks. The seminar halls facilitate the students & teachers to hold seminars and other group activities without disruption of normal classes. In addition, a meeting room Rammohan Sabhakaksha has been setup for meetings or conference.
Computer Centre :
The College provides a free of cost computer training to the willing students in its own Computer Centre. In addition to it, a MOU was signed in1994 between Chakdaha College and NIELIT (formerly DOEACC Society) to run a Computer Centre in assistance with The Institute of Computer Engineers (India) inside the College premises, where the students of our College could complete different job oriented certificate courses at subsidized rate. The students having employment exchange card may avail a scholarship up to Rs. 2000.00.
Solar Power Service :
Renewable energy must play a major role in the energy mix for achieving sustainable energy security in the years ahead. A rooftop solar PV system of capacity 10kWp has been installed on Net-metering basis on 05.07.2021 at our Chakdaha College campus on the rooftop of Science Building with the full financial support from Govt. of West Bengal and in assistance with the West Bengal Pollution Control Board. The power generated from SPV panels during the day time can be utilized for powering captive loads and for feeding excess power if any to the grid. RTS plant ensures fruitful utilization and economic value of idle rooftops also.
